Conventional point-of-sale (POS) rolls, thermal paper rolls, and other rolled products contain a cardboard or plastic core. While this facilitates easier winding of the product, it leaves an inner core material that requires disposal when no paper or other product remains on the roll. These disposable cores add up in our landfills, contributing to needless waste.
Coreless rolls offer a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable solution, and business owners who rely on POS rolls are increasingly taking advantage of this efficient new technology. Some of the benefits of using coreless rolls include:
Producing coreless thermal rolls requires a coreless winding machine. Jennerjahn’s coreless winding machines make this process simple, with various configurations to meet the demands of various consumer and manufacturer applications.
Equipped with Jennerjahn Machine’s patented technology, the CJJF Coreless Fully Automatic Surface Rewinder offers the highest degree of automation.
Core-related quality issues can be easily eliminated by using precision ground, high-quality shafts. This coreless rewinder includes an automated shaft handler that transfers rolls from the stripping station to the winding station. The innovative technology ensures the product remains secure throughout the winding process.
Once complete, the tails are cut automatically and fastened to the roll using an adhesive tab sealing system or standard glue system. The finished rolls are removed from the shaft and moved to the exit conveyor. The CJJF can keep running in automatic mode while the handler lifts the shaft and positions it for the next cycle.
Advantages of using coreless rolls include lowering production costs, increasing warehouse space, and promoting environmental initiatives. The features and benefits of the CJJF model add value to the product and provide a more efficient manufacturing process. Highlighted features include:
The benefits to the POS roll end product include:
Customers with an existing JJF, JJS, or DJJF machine manufactured in 2000 or later can retrofit it with this patented coreless rewind technology, in addition to obtaining the proper license from Jennerjahn Machine.
The CJLS Coreless Solid Shaft Large Slitter Rewinder is an ideal solution for companies converting roll products such as:
The surface slitter rewinder utilizes Jennerjahn Machine’s exclusive coreless rewind technology, maintaining the same level of automation as the JLS model. The rolls get tightly wound around precision ground shafts, removing the need for a core. Winding the roll with the right level of tightness ensures it resists deformation and crushing. Many manufacturers are unsuccessful with coreless winding because of this critical issue.
The CJLS has full automation capabilities using three 1.25” outer diameter (OD) rewind shafts. A chucking method keeps the shafts contained during the winding process. While the roll gets wound onto a shaft, a second shaft transfers to the sealing station to cut the tails. Rolls are stripped and sent to the exit conveyor. The handler retrieves the third shaft for staging behind the rewind station.
When a completed set of rolls go from the winding station to the sealing station, the handler places an empty shaft onto the winding station, and the cycle repeats itself.
Customers who currently have a JLS model (2001 or later) can use this coreless rewind technology by retrofitting their machine. The finished roll rewind diameter is limited to 10 inches on retrofits and new machines.
The CJLS Pneumatic Shaft Large Slitter Rewinder is an optimal solution for coreless products with the following parameters:
The equipment can produce floor underlayment (red rosin), gummed paper tape (water-activated packaging tape), and colored paper rolls commonly used for photography studio backdrops and educational settings.
The CJLS model, while fully automated, allows manual operators to help with roll packaging. The equipment uses pneumatically expandable rewind shafts to wind coreless rolls with a higher coefficient of friction and larger voids. The autoloader uses air to expand the shaft and then sends it to the winding station.
Similar to the standard JLS machine, the shaft of this machine is contained during the winding process via a chucking method. The rolls get wound onto the first shaft while the second shaft moves to the sealing station to cut and secure tails. Rolls then move on to the exit conveyor.
A shaft gripper system removes the shaft from the finished rolls and returns it to the autoloader. The coreless rolls are transferred to a packing table.
In addition to having similar features to the JJM and JJS models, the standard features of the CJLS include:
