There are many different uses for plotter and kraft paper, including butcher paper, brown paper bags, exam table coverings, or void fill material. They are manufactured in wide, long rolls but generally sold and used in narrower, shorter ones; therefore, cutting them to the correct size and rerolling them neatly is critical to manufacturing, distribution, and end-use.
Jennerjahn Machine makes fully automated and manual, high-precision slitter/rewinder equipment and accessories for converting these master rolls into smaller, more manageable sizes. Learn more about our machines and their features and benefits.
What are Plotter & Kraft Roll Slitters/Rewinder Machines?
Jennerjahn Machine designs high-precision, fully automated and manual slitter/rewinder equipment, along with accessories, to convert master rolls into smaller, manageable sizes. The process begins with the master roll being unwound on a shaftless unwind stand. A dancer tension control system then stabilizes tension, allowing for smooth acceleration and deceleration of the web.
To prepare for slitting, a bowed roller spreads the web, which can then be cut using shear, razor, or score cutting methods. The autoloader system automatically positions the rewind cores into the winding station, where interchangeable chucks secure cores of varying diameters during the winding cycle. After winding, the tails are automatically cut, and a dispenser applies cold-set glue to hold the roll ends in place. For certain materials and applications, an adhesive label dispenser can also be used to seal the roll ends.
Once complete, the finished rolls are transferred by conveyor to a packing table or downstream processing equipment, ready for the next stage.
Key Features & Benefits of Jennerjahn’s Top-Tier Plotter & Kraft Roll Slitter/Rewinder Machines
Jennerjahn slitter/rewinder machines bring many benefits to converting paper roll products. Two options for streamlining production include:
JLS 73 & 84: Large Slitter for 73″ and 84″ Products
The JLS 73 and 84 Large Slitters accommodate rolls up to 73 in. or 84 in. wide, with cores from 1.5 to 3.5 in. O.D. They are fully automatic and feature two bed rollers and a top rider roller, that applies programmable torque and regulated down pressure, to accurately control tension throughout the winding cycle. It winds rolls to a maximum 18 in. diameter, and secures finished rolls with cold glue or adhesive labels. Optionally, add a large capacity core hopper, packaging system, or other accessories to further streamline operations.
JJM: Manual Surface Rewinder
The JJM manual surface rewinder model is easy to set up and operate, and is an ideal choice for lower-volume converting and smaller rolls. It incorporates a rewind station and shafted unwinding stand into a monoframe design. This machine can reach web speeds up to 1800 fpm. An operator is required to perform these steps in the cycle:
- Remove finished rolls
- Place a cored mandrel into the machine
- Cut and secure the tails of finished rolls
