Construction materials like housewrap, roofing underlayment, vapor barriers, and other rolled products protect structures from moisture and weather-related damage. Because they are manufactured in large master rolls, they need to be cut to length and width and rewoundrolled onto new cores for sale and distribution.
Jennerjahn Machine specializes in automatic and manual slitter/rewinder machines and accessories that efficiently convert master rolls into manageable sizes for construction use. Our equipment is designed for high-precision measuring, winding, and cutting with a range of materials without wrinkles or core offset. Learn more about our slitter and rewinding machines and the value they can provide for your organization.
What Are Housewrap & Roofing Underlayment Slitters/Rewinder Machines?
Housewrap and roofing underlayment slitter/rewinder machines are designed to simplify and automate the process of slitting and rewinding large rolls of material with precision. Using a shear slitting mechanism with male and female knives, these machines make clean, accurate cuts, ensuring the product is consistently slit to the specified width.
To enhance efficiency, an automatic tail cutter creates a fast, smooth cut across the web, allowing the machine’s core transfer system to take over. It blows the leading edge of the material over the cores, where the material is securely tucked into the nip point to form a tight wrap around the core. This seamless transition from cutting to winding allows for a rapid and efficient process.
The shaftless rewind system, incorporating rewind chucks, keeps the cores securely in place during the tuck and winding cycle, enabling stable and consistent rewinding without needing a traditional shaft. After each winding cycle, the rider roller briefly reverses to guide the completed rolls to the seal station for final preparation, while an autoloader loads the next set of cores into position, keeping production moving without interruption.
With advanced two-drum surface winder technology, the machine’s top rider roller includes programmable torque control, maintaining constant tension on the roll throughout the winding process. This consistent tension ensures that each roll is tightly wound, producing a high-quality finished product that is ready for packaging and distribution.

Key Features of Housewrap & Roofing Underlayment Slitter/Rewinder Machines
JLS 73 & 84: Large Slitter for 73″ and 84″ Products
Our standard slitting and rewinding machine accommodates rolls up to 73 in. or 84 in. with cores with O.D. from 1.5 to 3.5 in. They apply precision tension to unwind and rewind the product for compact rolls cut to standard or custom sizes. It winds rolls to a maximum 18 in. diameter, and secures finished rolls with cold glue or adhesive labels. Optionally, add a medium or large capacity core hopper, packaging system, or other accessories to further streamline operations.
JLS 120: Large Slitter for 120″ Products
The JLS 120 accommodates single master rolls up to 120 in. wide or two rolls up to 48 in. wide simultaneously. This machine has a strong steel frame and a powerful motor to quickly convert rolls into individual ones from 4 in. to 12 in. diameter. When two 48 in. rolls are processed, converting and rewinding occur simultaneously.
JLS 135 & 150: Large Slitter for 135″ and 150″ Products
Our wide format machines work with rolls up to 135 in. or 150 in. wide. Like our standard slitter/rewinder machines, these feature bed rollers with programmable torque settings, automated tucking, tension control, and automated securing of roll ends.
Markets That Use Housewrap & Roofing Underlayment
Jennerjahn precision slitter/rewinder machines and accessories serve many industries and markets that manufacture or distribute rolls of materials, including construction industry-specific products like:
- Housewrap. This material is applied to structures between plywood and the exterior facade material like siding or brick. It is used to improve insulation performance, block rain and snow runoff, and protect the structure, while still allowing moisture vapor to escape. Cutting large rolls to smaller, narrower ones makes the material easier to work with on the job site.
- Roof underlayment. This layer of material beneath shingles helps prevent rain and melting snow from getting into interior spaces. It also extends the life of the roof decking plywood. Underlayment blocks moisture and improves insulation while still allowing some airflow. Carefully cut and wound rolls of material in manageable sizes help roofing crews apply and attach underlayment evenly.
